Don't let your pictures turn into "mystery photographs." Memory CD lets you share your photos today while preserving your memories for generations to come.

What is Memory CD?

Memory CD is a compact computer disk designed to operate with either Windows or Macintosh computers. It preserves not only your photographs, but your thoughts, memories and reminicing about those pictures. Each Memory CD package contains the following:

  • A Memory CD web site filled with both your photographs and your thoughts, memories and reminicinces about each of those photographs. Opening your Memory CD web site with your favorite web browser brings up the following pages:

    • An Introduction Page, where you can share some of the background behind the pictures you've put on the CD. Maybe you took a trip, and you'd like to explain how the trip came about, when it was, where it was, and what you were hoping to get out it.

    • An Index Page, which shows the thumbnail copies of your photographs. Clicking on a thumbnail image takes you to the full-sized photo.

    • Picture Pages, which display the 72 dpi JPG copies of your photos, plus your comments, thoughts, memories, and remincing about each picture. You have the option of resubmitting your comments one time after we put the approval copy of your Memory CD web site on our web pages.

    • A Conclusion Page, where you can summarize and share your thoughts about the photos or experiences shown on your Picture Pages.

Your website on CD is a complete web site in one folder. You can point your web browser at the CD and browse through your pictures and memories any time you want. If your internet service provider gives you some personal web space, upload the package and you have an instant web site. This works with America Online too! A Memory CD web site with thirty 4" x6" photos uses less than 3 meg of disk space.

  • High resolution scans of your photographs. You can print these 200 dpi TIF files on your own printer or have photographic quality prints made by a service bureau or camera store. Most word processing programs and all graphics programs can use these TIF images.

  • 72 dpi compressed scans of your photographs. You can share these JPG files with your family and friends through E-mail. You can view these images with many word processing programs, most graphics programs, and all web browsers (including America Online, Netscape Navigator, and Internet explorer).

  • 72 dpi thumbnail copies of your photographs. These small pictures make an excellent way to review your pictures. They are also JPG files.

  • A text-only version of your comments and thoughts for each picture, so that you can read and share the information by using a word processing program instead of a web browser.

  • A second copy of the CD, so you have a back-up copy. We strongly suggest storing this second copy in a safe deposit box or some other safe place. If your house caught on fire and burned to the ground, would any of your photographs or CD's survive?

  • Your Memory CD web pages hosted on our web site for 30 days. Once you get your Memory CD, you're going to want to share it with friends and family. You could E-mail them copies of the pictures and the text-only descriptions, but we think you'll find it much easier to send them a "check out this web page" E-mail so they can share your pictures and memories through the internet.

A Sample Memory CD Picture

A picture may be worth a thousand words, but a picture with a complete description is priceless. Remember that mystery photo of the two kids? Nice picture. Cute kids. But no history. No background. No connection with future generations. If you scroll down, you'll see another picture, presented in Memory CD format. Your Memory CD will have your pictures, with your comments, thoughts and memories under each picture - preserving those comments, thoughts and memories for future generations.

Rob: That's Chris and Brian riding Chris' horse in the back yard of our first home, which was at 629 S. Warren Ave. in Columbus.

Paula: Didn't we get that horse for Chris when he was real little?

Rob: Yeah, we got it for him about the same time he started to walk. He used to ride his horse for hours and hours at a time. It was a real surprise when he insisted on letting his little brother ride with him - we thought Chris was going to be real possessive about his horse. I think Chris kept riding that horse until he was about four. We sure got our money's worth on that toy.

This picture was taken about a month or so before we moved into our new home on Benning Drive, so Brian must be about 7 months old and Chris almost 3 years old.

A001

You probably have a series of similar photos of kids growing up. With full descriptions attached, they'd tell a pretty complete story of your family growing up. Something your great-grand kids would enjoy seeing and reading. "That's what Grandpa looked like when he was 3??? Wow - I looked just like him!"

Oh, that "A001" at the bottom of the description is the number we've assigned to this picture, which would allow you to easily find the high resolution version, the 72 dpi JPG version, and the thumbnail version of this photograph on your Memory CD.

Looking to the future

There is a real good chance that your grand kids and great-grand kids will look at CD's the same way your kids look at records. However, just as you can easily transfer music from records to cassette tapes or CD's, you'll be able to easily transfer your pictures memories from your Memory CD to whatever technology replaces the CD. Once your pictures and memories are in digital form, you can easily transfer them to hard drives, web servers, CD's, Smart Cards, DVD's, and any other multimedia format that may come along.
